Why Nova? by Norman McMullen

NOVA was not our first choice as an acronym for the chapter. Out of several choices (including River City Autoduellists Association and Omaha Metropolitan Enforcement Network) it was New Omaha Metropolitan Autoduellists (NOMAD) that was the first. However, by the time we sent in our name a group in California had claimed it. NOMADS went on to expand to three or four more sister chapters and lasted a few years. OMEN (Omaha Metropolitan Enforcement Network) was used by several groups here, but were not in the AADA.

So were back to square one. One day as I was pulling up into the parking lot at work I saw a mid-70's Chevy Nova. In a flash came “New Omaha Vehicular Association” - NOVA. It was adopted at the next game session and the rest was history.

Editor’s Note - We have heard the oldest joke about our name, NO-VA, (in Spanish No Go) so many times it died of age, fossilized, dug up, its DNA cloned and reborn.
