Liberated, but traumatized
by the Cazov bombardment, the Gluv went about the business
of restoring the homeworld. The Cazov R&D assistance
outpost on the planet had enabled the tech base to be
raised from level 5 to 8 in the three years of occupation,
but it was destroyed not by bombardment but by a vengeful
Gluva populace. Considerable aid was provided by the
Commonwealth, and those Gluva colonies in CPS space were
moved back to evacuated Gluva planets and asteroids. As a
whole, the race felt only a small measure of vindication
when it became known that the Cazov race committed suicide
rather than face total defeat. The re-establishment of trade with the Commonwealth and forming a trade pact with the Foamasi helped in restoring a sense of normalcy for the Gluv. However, a lingering sense of resentment and inadequacy was felt by the race. Had the technology been better, as the opinion went, then resistance against the Cazov could've been greater. In compensation the Gluv had a Commonwealth science outpost placed on the homeworld so as to assist R&D efforts. A purely defensive fleet, centered on earlier versions of CSF CAs, BCs, and CVs, was built and refitted periodically. The last open warp point in Gluv territory, a point that even the Cazov didn't bother to check out, was explored. A total of four systems were discovered when it was found that there were no other open warp points, barring further expansion. One of those systems had a habitable planet and two asteroid belts. This would be the last major colonization effort for the Gluv in their territory. Alone among the Commonwealth's allies, the Gluv took the war between the Fendalen royal families with great concern. When word came of the Vendian genocide the Gluv immediately demothballed all their reserve units. Technically still below that of the Commonwealth, the Starship Guild (SG) nevertheless offered its ships to provide rear area coverage and patrol duties, freeing CSF ships for the front. The other area where the Gluv could help effectively was transport. Building freighters for the fleet trains and moving prefab components allowed the Commonwealth to focus more of its industrial capacity to constructing warships. Nine years into the war the SG had finally reach a technical level where it could participate in front line combat. A solid core of Gluv built SMs, back by an equal number of SDs and scores of BCs, were instrumental in the open stages of the Battle of High Realm. Gluva ground troops also made their combat debut, forming 20% of the initial landing force on High Realm. Later, at the final battle at the Fendalen home system, Gluv ships formed the close guard for CSF juggernauts and leviathans, literally blasting away the lighter High Navy units that tried to perform point-blank attacks. After the Pulurtan War the Gluva, with the permission of the CPS, established a hostile environment settlement in the Ulithi system. From there Gluv guildsmiths could fulfill orders from Fendalen customers in a much more timely fashion. The sole terraforming candidate in Gluva territory was the focus of the peacetime government. The Era of the Long Peace was seen as the salve for the lingering trauma still felt by the Gluv years after the Cazov bombardment. The Starship Guild (SG) In the four years between wars the SG was a cruiser and carrier force. The main combatants were early copies of Kiosho, Tamaya, and Zumpla class CAs, followed by Disam, Derakag, Bowmen and Gymen class BCs. Junshu and Yoshibo carriers were built; nothing smaller was ever considered. This force mix remained until the adoption of the Rca. Half of all Disam and Derakag production was shifted to produce the Rocket Shop class SD. Also upon reaching TL 14 no more CVs and CVBs were built in favor of Jhal Bonhonnal CVAs. The SG received a major boost when technological advancements upon reaching TL 15 increased Gluv revenues. The work on the first 24 Guild President SMs was completed thanks to the new cash flow. Even so, 80% of the territorial defense force had to be mothballed in order to support the first truly offensive task force the SG fielded in the Pulurtan War. The new Shop Attendant class BC replaced the CAs in the construction schedule. Built in numbers to act both as escorts and oversized destroyers, Shop Attendants claimed their share of High Navy CAs and CLs in the final year of the war. |
