This is the most prestigious arena in the Protectorate. Only accomplished
duelists are permitted to compete in this arena. During festivals and holidays,
the Emperor himself can chose any duelist to participate in his arena.
To be chosen to fight before the Emperor is an honor and shouldn't be taken
lightly. Security in and around the arena is heavy, so expect several weapon
searches upon arrival.
Located near the Imperial Palace, the arena offers
a shorten schedule and is usually attended by the Emperor. Duelists behaving
disrespectfully while at the arena have been banned from ever returning.
For particularly bad behavior the Emperor himself has his samurai deal
with the offenders in the arena. Being competent autoduelists themselves,
the samurai rarely lose, so be warned and stay on your best behavior.
The Garden Arena is modeled after a Zen rock garden.
When not in use, it is often use as a place of meditation by Zen practitioners.
As part of the Samurai Circuit, the Garden Arena is open from April to
October.
Arena Features:
With the arena floor covered with six inches of sand, the Garden Arena
is treated as an off-road arena. Defenses include four gauss guns, located
one in each corner in universal turrets. Rocks have 50 DP and are three
feet high. Boulders are 150 DP each and are ten feet high. Trees, trimmed
in bonsai fashion, are ten feet tall and have 20 DP each. The ten gates
have 10 DP, stand ten feet high, and will open when rammed.
Samurai:
The Samurai are Japanese Protectorate soldiers that guard the Imperial
Palace and serve as the Emperor's bodyguard. For autodueling purposes,
a typical Samurai is Driver +3, Gunner +3, Handgunner +4, Martial Arts
+5, and Running +3. Each Samurai is provided with an unlimited-class dueling
car.
Grandstands:
Holding 2,000 people, the grandstands are mostly filled with invited
guests. Particularly obnoxious guests can expect to be punished between
duels.
Schedule:
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday - closed
Thursday - Challenge Night
Friday - AADA Divisionals
Saturday - Special Events
Sunday - Samurai Night
Special Events:
V.I.P. - Famous people duke it out to a capacity audience. Division
and vehicles vary, and security is increased to ensure fair play. Prestige
is not a factor for this event, for only small, select groups are invited
to watch.
Samurai Night - The Emperor's Samurai take on ill-mannered duelists
in one-on-one duels. Division is decided upon by the offending duelist.
Fighting continues until the offending duelist is defeated, killed, or
incapacitated. While uncommon, a defeated Samurai will acknowledge his
loss gracefully, though some of the more traditional Samurai will commit
ritual suicide. If this happens, then the Samurai's clone is activated
and the restored warrior sets out to restore his honor in the eyes of his
Emperor. Prestige for this event is normal.
Occasionally on Samurai Night, regular Protectorate
soldiers compete to win the honor of being a Samurai. Given the requirements
to become one of the Emperor's protectors, the quality of the combatants
insures the dueling action will be high grade.
