February 13, 2049. NOVA members gathered at the Aksarben Arena for their
Club Duelling Championship. Mike Garrity, Don Jacques, and Norman McMullen
entered the event.
Mike entered through Gate 5, Don Gate 1, and Norman
Gate 3. They accelerated and converged just north of the TV tower. Don
fired a targeting laser at Mike. The laser missed, but the shot was to
obtain a consecutive fire bonus next turn. Mike answered with a BC round
to Don's right side, doing average damage. As Don rounded the jump Norman
fired his RRs, doing moderate damage. Mike turned to follow Don, only to
meet Norman coming between the jump and TV tower. The one round Norman
managed to inflict on Mike did only minor damage to the front armor.
Don used the opportunity to fire his targeting laser
and rockets on Norman's right side, doing heavy damage. Heading south,
Don was hit by another BC round from Mike. Norman circled the TV tower
to get back into the action. Don fired his gas streamer, coating Mike's
windshield with paint. The chase continued in-between the outer bunkers
near Gate 3. Don fired his rockets into Mike's front, doing moderate damage.
As Mike rounded the bunker Norman fired his RRs. Only one round hit, doing
light damage to Mike's front armor. Another BC shell hit Don's back armor.
In reply, Don fired his remaining gas streamer round at Mike and ducked
behind an obstacle.
Norman turned to pursue Mike. Don lost control as
he rounded an obstacle. He sideswiped the obstacle, receiving more damage
to his right armor. Norman kept the pressure on Mike, scoring another hit
with an RR shell. In an effort to shake Mike, Don turned sharply to enter
a tunnel. He lost control and slid into the edge of the tunnel entrance.
The driver died in the collision and Mike was awarded the kill as he had
scored the last hit on Don's car. The wreck continued its travel down the
tunnel and came to a stop against the wall on the far side.
Mike started a trail of spikes and mines. Norman
turned into the tunnel to avoid these obstacles, but he rolled over some
of them. The loads were napalm, and Norman's left rear tire and underbody
armor were set on fire. However, his vehicle stayed in control. He continued
to chase Mike, but was unable to score additional hits after he left the
tunnel. With the underbody armor and tire nearly gone, Norman turned towards
Gate 3. The tire went out just a few feet from the gate, but Norman coaxed
his car into the pits just in time for the pit crew to put out the remaining
fires. Mike was declared the winner of the 2049 Club Duelling Championship.
